Proposed
Gayford
Facility
An integrated natural gas-fired power generation and on-site data processing project by Armada Nowlit Energy. The current design brings nine generator units and nine data processing modules together on one compact site.
The project remains subject to municipal and other required approvals.
A compact site.
A rural setting.
The proposed facility is approximately 16 km southeast of Irricana, immediately north of an existing Ember Resources natural gas compressor station. The remainder of the agricultural parcel is intended to remain in agricultural use.
- Legal locationNW ¼ Section 35, Township 26, Range 25, W4M
- Road accessRange Road 252, using an existing approach and shared private access
- Power useElectricity consumed on site, with no grid connection or export proposed
- OperationsRemote monitoring with periodic inspection and maintenance visits
Generation and data.
One coordinated site.
The current concept combines enclosed generation, modular computing, emissions controls, electrical distribution and secured access within a defined development footprint.
6 × 1.9 MW
3 × 2.2 MW
Nine natural gas generator units provide a combined installed generating capacity of 18 MW under the current MSDP design.
Nine modular
containers
Modular containers accommodate the on-site computing infrastructure supplied by the proposed generation facility.
Closed-loop.
Dry heat rejection.
Engine cooling fluid recirculates through sealed circuits and liquid-to-air radiators. The proposed system does not use cooling towers.
Pipeline tie-in
Pipeline supply avoids routine fuel-truck deliveries. Detailed connections and access-crossing arrangements remain subject to the applicable review processes.
SCR + monitoring
The MSDP proposes selective catalytic reduction on all nine generators, supported by predictive emissions monitoring and applicable approval requirements.
Remotely monitored
Continuous remote monitoring, controlled access and periodic maintenance visits support an operating model with no permanent on-site staff.
Noise, air,
water and traffic.
Technical assessments and design measures described in the MSDP support review of the proposal. Modelled results describe the assessed design, rather than measurements from an operating Gayford facility.
Noise
The MSDP reports that the noise assessment predicts compliance with applicable AUC Rule 012 limits at assessed receptors. Final equipment and operating arrangements must meet the applicable requirements.
Air quality
The assessment summarized in the MSDP includes background concentrations and the adjacent compressor station. Reported modelled nitrogen dioxide results are below the applicable objectives using the assessment’s stated statistical measures.
Water
No permanent municipal water or wastewater connection is proposed. Transported drinking water and contractor-serviced portable sanitation are planned for construction and maintenance personnel. Engine cooling uses dry heat rejection.
Traffic
Normal operations are expected to generate one to three maintenance, inspection or service visits per day. Construction deliveries will be managed through approved routing and road-use requirements.
A considered edge
to the farmland.
The landscape concept concentrates native or drought-tolerant planting along the western and southern boundaries. Screening, shielded lighting and controlled access are intended to limit off-site effects while maintaining emergency access and drainage.
These illustrations are conceptual, not construction drawings or photographs of a completed Gayford facility. Final planting, equipment and layout details will be established through development permitting and detailed design.
Planned for operation.
And eventual closure.
The MSDP sets out emergency response, monitoring and reclamation commitments for the proposed facility’s operating life and eventual closure.
Access and response
Remote alarms, shutdown procedures, controlled responder access and coordination with local emergency services are planned before commissioning.
Monitor and maintain
Operational monitoring, emissions controls, maintenance records and complaint-response procedures support ongoing compliance.
Return to agricultural use
Following permanent closure, equipment and associated infrastructure are intended to be removed and disturbed land reclaimed for agricultural use or tame pasture.
Subject to
required approvals.
Development will proceed through the applicable planning, permitting and technical review processes. Construction and operation remain subject to the required authorizations.
Planning and regulatory review
Municipal land-use review and applicable provincial approvals.
Detailed design and permitting
Site layout, drainage, access, landscaping, lighting and emergency response arrangements.
Construction and commissioning
Implementation of approved plans and completion of required pre-operation checks.
